The Great Hoax Of The 21st Century (Global Warming)

This comes from Patrick Buchanan over at Human Events Online. Given the revelations that British and Australian Media outlets have exposed concerning things like the Univeristy of East Anglia email scandal and the fact that IPCC insiders knew that their Himalayan glacier reports were false, Global Warming is shaping up to be the scientific hoax of the 21st Century.

Buchanan briefly describes the biggest hoaxes of the 20th Century (i.e. Piltdown Man and Nebraska Man) before looking into the newest scientific hoax to date:

But if Piltdown Man and his American cousin Nebraska Man were the hoaxes of the 20th century, global warming is the great hoax of the 21st. In a matter of months, what have we learned: -- In its 2007 report claiming that the Himalayan glaciers are melting, the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change relied on a 1999 news story in a popular science journal, based on one interview with a little-known Indian scientist who said this was pure "speculation," not supported by any research. The IPCC also misreported the supposed date of the glaciers' meltdown as 2035. The Indian had suggested 2350. -- The IPCC report that global warming is going to kill 40 percent of the Amazon rainforest and cut African crop yields 50 percent has been found to be alarmist propaganda. -- The IPCC 2007 report declared 55 percent of Holland to be below sea level, an exaggeration of over 100 percent. -- While endless keening is heard over the Arctic ice cap, we hear almost nothing of the 2009 report of the British Antarctica Survey that the sea ice cap of Antarctica has been expanding by 100,000 square kilometers a decade for 30 years. That translates into 3,800 square miles of new Antarctic ice every year. -- Though America endured one of the worst winters ever, while the 2009 hurricane season was among the mildest, the warmers say this proves nothing. But when our winters were mild and the 2005 hurricane season brought four major storms to the U.S. coast, Katrina among them, the warmers said this validated their theory. You can't have it both ways. -- The Climatic Research Unit at East Anglia University, which provides the scientific backup for the IPCC, apparently threw out the basic data on which it based claims of a rise in global temperatures for the century. And a hacker into its e-mail files found CRU "scientists" had squelched the publication of dissenting views.

Yep. This is what people on the left call "science." To them, "science" is that which agrees with their political philosophy and encompasses nothing that goes counter to their political philosophy. Hence the massive fraud.

Mexican Military Aggressively Crosses U.S. Border And Arctic Ice Still Not Melting

If you think the current Presidential campaign, economics and oil prices have erased the illegal immigration problem, think again. Another very troubling incident has occurred down in Arizona and we cannot afford to ignore it.

From the Washington Times:

A U.S. Border Patrol agent was held at gunpoint Sunday night by members of the Mexican military who had crossed the border into Arizona, but the soldiers returned to Mexico without incident when backup agents responded to assist. Agents assigned to the Border Patrol station at Ajo, Ariz., said the Mexican soldiers crossed the international border in an isolated area about 100 miles southwest of Tucson and pointed rifles at the agent, who was not identified. It was unclear what the soldiers were doing in the United States, but U.S. law enforcement authorities have long said that current and former Mexican military personnel have been hired to protect drug and migrant smugglers.

That was a military incursion into our soveriegn territory. I know that production of domestic energy is in the forefront of our national debate right now, but we need to remember that other issues are still going unresolved.

And according to the Seattle Times, three vessels are stuck in the Arctic ice pack off of Alaska's northern coast.

The Alaska Patriot, Riverton and Hudson Bay Explorer were traveling east when they became stuck. It is not known how many people are aboard. The Coast Guard says it has diverted the Coast Guard Icebreaker Healy to open the ice around the ships. However, it will take the Healy a minimum of two days to get to the ships.

I wonder if the people aboard those ships were up there trying to document the claim that the Arctic was supposed to be ice-free this summer.

An Ice Free Arctic? Not This Year.

June 27, 2008. Maggie Rodriguez makes a wild claim on CBS's Early Show. In case you don't remember, here is what she said:

"Also ahead this morning, we'll talk about a disturbing new report from some scientists in Colorado who say that there is the very real possibility that for the first time we will see the ice in the North Pole melt away completely during the summer."

Yes, I said wild claim and that is exactly what it was. National Geographic had it with this article before it got picked up by CBS:

But there is always a problem when politics trumps real science. The problem is that predictions go wrong and the wild prediction above was very wrong.

According to the National Snow and Ice Data Center:

Arctic sea ice extent on July 16 stood at 8.91 million square kilometers (3.44 square miles). While extent was below the 1979 to 2000 average of 9.91 square kilometers (3.83 million square miles), it was 1.05 million square kilometers (0.41 million square miles) above the value for July 16, 2007 (see Figures 1 and 2).

In other words, the Arctic Ice is thicker this year than it was this time last year and that means the chances of an "ice-free Arctic" are becoming more remote.

That goes counter to National Geographic's claim that "[T]his summer's forecast serves as a dire warning of how quickly the polar regions are being affected by climate change."

Clearly, the "climate change" they are referring to is going in the right direction according to the data and we are getting more ice, not less.

I wonder if Maggie Rodriguez will report that there is really more ice up there than this time last year? Doubtful. That would require integrity on her part.

Volcanoes Under The Arctic Ice May Be Behind The Ice Melts Of The Northern Hemisphere

But don't expect Al Gore or any of the Global Warming alarmists to be talking about it. In fact, it is probably in their best financial interest to try and hide it.

But, what is even more important is that this may be the explanantion as to why the Arctic Ice retreated recently (and then came back) while Antarctic Ice seems to be getting thicker and growing.

Take a look at this from Yahoo News:

Recent massive volcanoes have risen from the ocean floor deep under the Arctic ice cap, spewing plumes of fragmented magma into the sea, scientists who filmed the aftermath reported Wednesday. ... [W]hen a team led of scientists led by Robert Sohn of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts finally got a first-ever glimpse of the ocean floor 4,000 meters (13,000 feet) beneath the Arctic pack ice, they were astonished. What they saw was unmistakable evidence of explosive eruptions rather than the gradual secretion of lava bubbling up from Earth's mantle onto the ocean floor. Previous research had concluded that this kind of so-called pyroclastic eruption could not happen at such depths due to the crushing pressure of the water.

Which is why no one considered the possibility that a volcanic eruption under the ice pack may have greatly contributed to the melt-off. Certainly, Al Gore's trained parrot "scientists" never thought about it.

So, what does all of this really mean? It means that man-made global warming just took another major blow to the head. The next logical question to ask is: Is there any evidence that volcanoes are having an effect on ice melts in the northern hemisphere? And, could this be the reason why ice melts are happening in the northern hemisphere despite declining global temperatures while the ice in the southern hemisphere is getting thicker?

We can look to the Ohio State University for an answer to that one:

Scientists have discovered what they think may be another reason why Greenland 's ice is melting: a thin spot in Earth's crust is enabling underground magma to heat the ice. ... “The behavior of the great ice sheets is an important barometer of global climate change,” said Ralph von Frese, leader of the project and a professor of earth sciences at Ohio State University. “However, to effectively separate and quantify human impacts on climate change, we must understand the natural impacts, too.

And it is these "natural impacts" that Al Gore and the global warming alarmists have been completely ignoring.

von Frese's team combined gravity measurements of the area taken by a Naval Research Laboratory aircraft with airborne radar measurements taken by research partners at the University of Kansas. The combined map revealed changes in mass beneath the Earth's crust, and the topography of the crust where it meets the ice sheet. Below the crust is the mantle, the partially molten rocky layer that surrounds the Earth's core. The crust varies in thickness, but is usually tens of miles thick. Even so, the mantle is so hot that temperatures just a few miles deep in the crust reach hundreds of degrees Fahrenheit, von Frese explained. “Where the crust is thicker, things are cooler, and where it's thinner, things are warmer. And under a big place like Greenland or Antarctica , natural variations in the crust will make some parts of the ice sheet warmer than others,” he said. The ice thickness, the temperature at the base of the ice, and ground topography all contribute to the forming of an ice stream -- a river of ice that flows within a larger ice sheet. In recent years, Greenland ice streams have been carrying ice out to sea faster, and ice cover on the island has been diminishing. ... The newly discovered hotspot is just below the ice stream, and could have caused it to form, the researchers concluded. But what caused the hotspot to form? “It could be that there's a volcano down there,” he said. “But we think it's probably just the way the heat is being distributed by the rock topography at the base of the ice.”

So, scientists are finally acknowledging what we skeptics have been saying for years: The issue is a hell of alot more complex than just human actvity and it is looking like nature is playing a larger role than humans could ever hope to.

Thus far, there are no hotspots or volcanoes being reported in Antarctica where the ice is getting thicker.
