Cash For Clunkers Gives Good Preview Of Government Efficiency In Health Care
Several car dealerships in New York have withdrawn from the "Cash for Clunkers" program. Why?
Dan Strumpf of Associated Press has this:
| "(The government) needs to move the system forward and they need to start paying these dealers," said Mark Schienberg, the group's president. "This is a cash-dependent business." The program offers up to $4,500 to shoppers who trade in vehicles getting 18 mpg or less for a more fuel-efficient car or truck. Dealers pay the rebates out of pocket, then must wait to be reimbursed by the government. But administrative snags and heavy paperwork have created a backlog of unpaid claims. |
Some reports show that only 4% of CARS claims have been paid out over a two-month period.
Can you imagine if only 4% of health care needs were tended to in a two-month period? Cash for Clunkers is giving us a good preview of how difficult it would be to get good, quality health care from a government-run system.
