The Coming Budget Fight And Why We Need To Make Sure It Is A Big Fight

What will the ultimate results of Obama's budget and tax hikes be? In general terms, bad news. But in terms of how much of the U.S. economy is going to be swallowed up by government, it looks even worse.

Patrick Buchanan, writing for Town Hall, gives us some particulars:

Where the U.S. government usually consumes 21 percent of gross domestic product, this Obama budget spends 28 percent in 2009 and runs a deficit of $1.75 trillion, or 12.7 percent of GDP. That is four times the largest deficit of George W. Bush and twice as large a share of the economy as any deficit run since World War II.

Add that 28 percent of GDP spent by the U.S. government to the 12 percent spent by states, counties and cities, and government will consume 40 percent of the economy in 2009.

40%. And most of that is going to be wasted on welfare programs and socialist wealth redsitribution schemes.

More:

Since the budget was released, word has come that the U.S. economy did not shrink by 3.8 percent in the fourth quarter, but 6.2 percent. All the assumptions in Obama's budget about growth in 2009 and 2010 need to be revised downward, and the deficits revised upward.

Look for the deficit for 2009 to cross $2 trillion.

Do you remember just two years ago when the Dems were screaming that Bush's budget was causing a deficit and how the Dems were going to fix that for us? I guess when the Dems said "fix" it they meant they were going to send it soaring even higher than Bush ever tried to do.

And this:

Who abroad is going to lend us the trillions to finance our deficits without demanding higher interest rates on the U.S. bonds they are being asked to hold? And if we must revert to the printing press to create the money, what happens to the dollar?

...

Who is going to pay for all this?

The top 2 percent, the filthy rich who got all those Bush tax breaks, say Democrats. But the top 5 percent of income earners already pay 60 percent of U.S. income taxes, while the bottom 40 percent pays nothing.

And that bottom forty percent are going to get nice fat checks next April, that is, wealth will be redistributed to them despite the fact that they do not invest, they do not employ other people and their tax burdern was 0. In other words, Obama is making good on his promise so that he can complete the deal of buying off their votes. What is going to happen when the banks no longer honor those government checks, though?

And the reason we know that Obamanomics is going to be a disaster:

Markets are not infallible. But the stock market has long been a "lead indicator" of where the economy will be six months from now. What are the markets, the collective decisions of millions of investors, saying?

Having fallen every month since Obama's election, with January and February the worst two months in history, they are telling us the stimulus package will not work, that Tim Geithner is clueless about how to save the banks, that the Obama budget portends disaster for the republic.

Which is why we need to put up a huge fight over the budget and the way this administration is dragging us towards socialism.

More On Double Standards Held By The Left

It isn't just the wardrobe. It's everything. Gov. Sarah Palin has been dragged through the slime by the leftist MSM. But, can you imagine if others were held to the same standard as Gov. Palin is held to simply because she is a woman?

Pat Buchanan looks at some of this in his latest column. From Real Clear Politics:

Contrasting McCain with his hero, Joe [Biden] declared a few weeks back, "When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and ... said, 'Look, here's what happened.'"

Nice historical reference. Except when the market crashed in 1929, Hoover was president, and there was no television.

Can one imagine what the press would have done to Sarah Palin had she exhibited such ignorance of history. Or Dan Quayle?

Joe gets a pass because everybody likes Joe.

...

Saturday, the New York Times did a takeout on Cindy McCain that delved back into her problem with prescription pills. Yet when Hillary's campaign manager, Mark Penn, brought up Obama's cocaine use on "Hardball," he was savaged by folks for whom the Times is the gold standard.

The people apparently had a "right to know" of Bush's old DUI arrest a week before the 2000 election, but no right to know about how and when Obama was engaged in the criminal use of cocaine.

The media cannot get enough of the "Saturday Night Live" impersonations of Palin as a bubblehead. News shows pick up the Tina Fey clips and run them and run them to the merriment of all.

Can one imagine "Saturday Night Live" doing weekly send-ups of Michelle Obama and her "I've never been proud" of my country, this "just downright mean" America, using a black comedienne to mimic and mock her voice and accent?

"Saturday Night Live" would be facing hate crime charges.

Sexism reigns supreme on the left.

Is there anyone out there who still believes that the MSM is fair and objective?

I don't.

La Raza And The Anti-Defamation League Push For Censorship

It always amazes me how leftist groups claim to be fanatically committed to freedom (e.g. the ACLU) and yet they actively engage in activities specifically designed to curtail the freedom of others. We already know how the ACLU has been on an anti-Christian Crusade for the past several years and we know how that same ACLU works to silence the Boy Scouts while trying to give terrorists a louder voice.

But they are not alone.

The radical Hispanic group La Raza along with the Anti-Defamation League have been on a massive campaign to silence anyone who speaks out against illegal immigration. According to Roy Beck at NumbersUSA:

Led by the National Council of La Raza and the Anti-Defamation League, the open-borders groups have started a concerted campaign to persuade Cable TV executives to either bar me and our Director of Government Relations Rosemary Jenks from their shows, or to always introduce us as representing an "extremist" organization with ties to hate and racist groups.

Their characterization of NumbersUSA and our members is without any connection to reality, facts or even common decency. But if all of us remain silent in the face of this campaign of character assassination, we might indeed be silenced on TV and beyond.

And more specific targets include Lou Dobbs of CNN, Pat Buchanan of MSNBC, Glenn Beck of Headline News and Sean Hannity of Fox.

Knowing how left-leaning most news networks are, it is not a question of if they will cave in but a question of when.

So, what can we do? We can notify the heads of the various networks that we will not be pleased if they give in to the propaganda of groups such as La Raza and ADL. You can contact them thus:

And Roy Beck reminds us:

Please remember that these executives are not our enemies. Although we may not always agree with their balance in covering immigration, these three cables have been far more open than broadcast TV and the nation's newspapers to allowing the majority of Americans' concerns about immigration to be expressed.

The La Raza Censorship Campaign is telling these executives that if they allow leaders from FAIR, the Minutemen, ALIPAC, or if they allow Rosemary and me, to continue to express our views on TV, the executives will be inculcating "good people" to hate all immigrants.

The La Raza website says it goes beyond the bounds of free speech to say that our nation's immigration policies threaten our communities and our values.

I say that statement itself threatens the values of our nation.

Let these executives know that you know about the effort at censorship and that you back them 100% in keeping the immigration forum open to all sides -- including the open-borders people who want to censor us.
