It is about how Creigh Deeds tried to make an issue out of a non-issue and it exploded in his face.84ruleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03114981487959612297noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6344655463026618501.post-52493632608934556372009-08-14T22:10:12.665-04:002009-08-14T22:10:12.665-04:00If you are going to copy crap off of the web, at l...If you are going to copy crap off of the web, at least get the context correct.

The 1999 quote was preceding Deeds explanation as to why he was against the SCV getting our Battle Flag logo on the SCV license plate. Deeds went on to piss-off everyone who cares about Southern Heritage by saying that it was time to bury that banner in the past.

BOTH of the candidates need to learn about, equal treatment under the law. Deeds had no business opposing the logo, since the SCV had met the state requirement for the plate. McDonnell stood by with his hands in his pockets, rather than speak-up and proclaim that the SCV and other heritage groups must be treated equally under our laws.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans is a longstanding civic organization who are responsible for many historic monuments all across our nation and whose members have contributed millions of volunteer hours to preserve monuments and cemeteries as a way of honoring both Union and Confederate soldiers.

The US Congress has formally recognized Confederate veterans as U.S. veterans, and it is well past time for those whose only knowledge of history is what they saw on Jerry Springer, to learn that those who fly the Battle Flag, for the most part, do so to honor our veterans.

In the Twenty-first Century, Virginians sit atop a gold mine in the form of Confederate era tourism. Both candidates should be talking about how Virginians of every background can earn a piece of the potential BILLION dollars that we could generate by promoting Confederate era tourism.

If Massachusetts can create jobs based on Pilgrim era tourism, Virginia can do even better by adding the celebration of the Confederate era to our already superb Revolutionary War tourism programs.J.
